The 24" length is the length of the webbing. **Q: Does this come with a separate D ring or are they referring to the metal attachments at the end of the strap?** A: They refer to metal triangles at the end of the strap as Delta rings. Delta can be loosely translated as "3" or triangle, the rings are triangular shaped. They have small pieces of metal folded over the side that receives the web strap to enlarge and soften the stress points on the fabric strap. I find the triangular shape perfect for field use. I have never had any problems of a hook slipping out of the Delta ring; a grab 7/16 hook works perfect! A slip hook with a functioning mouse is very safe and I have never had any trouble with the Delta ring! The 7/16 grab hook works so well I use the strap on a trailer ball when recovering stuck vehicles instead of using the chain hook that is very prone to slipping off. Never an issue and my co-workers are very impressed! I did not have a 'jerk rope' and with my short chain needed a slow speed pull out of a buried to the axle four wheel drive small boom truck. I think I used two straps on the two trailer balls (back to back pull out) it went perfectly well. **Q: would this be strong enough to attach around a tree with a dog tie out? under supervision but if she ran full force would this hold?** A: I would worry more about if the tree would hold.
