I prefer them over foundation because they are lighter and easier to apply. My criteria is that the company is totally cruelty free, and that the formula doesn't contain any nasty chemicals. This is my favorite! It blends easily and has a lovely finish. I have dry skin so I put on moisturizer first and let it sink into my skin a few minutes before applying. If I want more coverage (and sun protection) I apply a mineral powder with sunscreen (Jane Iredale has a good one) and I'm set for the day! It is important to find the right color. I really like buff. It was out of stock so I tried a different color and it just didn't work for me. I'm happy to see that buff is back in stock! BTW-when looking online for the color I wanted, some sites have the colors listed by letters and numbers rather than the name of a color. It would be nice if Amazon could list both for reference.
