Review: Review of both Mora floating knives - Review of both Mora cork handled floating knives: orange sheath serated safety tip and green sheath fine edge clip point. When comparing the two knives they have identical sheaths, handles, weight, length, steel type and stock thickness. Color and blade grind are your main differences. I bought the serated safety tip knife with orange sheath for use in my canoe. More recently in 2020 I bought the clip point green sheath as a ultralight hiking knife. These knives float well and are very light at 3.07 OZ making them great to carry as a ultralight backpacking knife. The cork handle is incredibly comfortable and grippy especially when wet. My magnet shows the tang continues to the end of the handle, and the cork is more dense than a fly-rod cork handle but the handle has more flex than any other knife I have used. The handle flexes but is tough enough for all normal knife tasks IMHO it won't break. The Tang is encased in plastic and the cork is bonded to the plastic I don't think the cork would rip off the Tang as other reviewers have predicted. The cork handle has a great feel in hand and reminds me of a fly-rod, very comfortable and more durable than you might think. The sheath is hi-vis orange or green with drainhole, exactly similar to all Mora plastic sheaths. I see another reviewer said the sheath was flimsy but it is a standard Mora sheath quite robust. Both knives came razor sharp and the scandy grinds were perfect. I modified the orange sheath serated to a sheeps foot design(see photos) to increase it's usefulness as safety is my 3rd priority. I also sharpened the spine of the blade. I would recommend these knives to anyone looking for a boat/safety knife or a ultralight backpacking knife on a budget. I have had the orange model for two boat seasons and under moderate use the handle shows no wear to the cork but does pick up some dirt from your hands. Have been using the orange serated edge for two boating seasons and it has kept an edge and have been perfect for cutting rope, fish and wood. I would mention that the sheath retention is achieved through two divots on either side of the cork handle and two matching nubs on the sheath. This has not worn at all on me yet and my personal experience with cork is that it is much more durable than you might think. I would say it should last 20 years or more with my use and at this price point most mora knives are purpose built and intended to be worked hard and replaced when worn.
Review: Quality - Brilliant. Sharp. Great sheath. Used for commercial crabbing. Great s safety knife and general all round rope knife.
