I was charging my Nexus 5X while using Google Maps for directions. My wife noticed smoke coming from my phone so I unplugged the phone from the charger. 15-30 minutes after I unplugged the phone from the charger, I noticed more smoke coming from inside of my vehicle. The type c end of the charger melted the rubber mat in my vehicle. The charger was still plugged into car so I removed it from the cigarette lighter receptacle and it eventually cooled down. It fits snugly in the power outlet in my car and has a sleek appearance. I also like that it has a regular USB port in addition to the USB-C cord to charge my Google Nexus 5X phone. Unfortunately, in February 2017, the USB-C portion of the charger simply stopped working, although the standard USB (Type A) port still worked. I immediately unplugged it and threw it out. I am not sure why it would have smoke coming out of it. I haven't ever had an issue with any car charger before in my life.
