I had stayed away from the metal cutting saws for many years after that, but recently I had another situation where I needed a saw for cutting steel and decided to give the Milwaukee a try. The saws does not disappoint, but you really want the 12ah battery for best performance. The only downside is, in spite of having a chip catcher, a considerable amount of chips still get sprayed around. The saw is best used outside. Review: Fast clean cuts - Awesome saw, but you have to setup a guide sense you can't see the blade while cutting. Clean cuts and cuts effortlessly thru 1/2 inch steel. Cutting 1/16" sheets of steel. (1.5mm thick / 16 gauge). Also cutting 1"x 3" and tubular profiles, 1/16" thin.** A: It would cut the 1x3 no problem at all. The 16 gauge it might be to aggressive and tear vs cut. They make shears that are specific for that kind of gauge metal.
