You need to squeeze it so that it goes into the pipe - then it expands when you release it to make a tight fit. **Q: How does this fit in the pipe?** A: Very simple and effective; the guard is in fact a slightly oversize 4 inch diameter tube with a broad slot down it's length. - To fit it into a 4inch diameter sewage pipe you simply need to squeeze the tube to reduce its diameter, then push it into the drain pipe and, as soon as you release it, it springs back to make a tight fit in the pipe. - Takes a bit of strength to squeeze the tube down to size,but I managed it without too much hassle. When you do this, it's important to lift the hinged flap up out of the way. Hope this helps. **Q: Will the guard prevent rubble from the pipes from getting through? I am worried it will get blocked up and cause flooding** A: It is on a hinge that opens to allow waste to flow out to main drains and stays closed to prevent anything like rats coming up from the main drains. I would have thought that rubble will block your drains anyway, regardless of whether you have the guard fitted or not. **Q: I have had rats chew thru flexi pan connectors, which link the WC to waste pipe.
