The wood is protected from degrading with use and I find it easy to hand wash with light applications of dish soap. I apply according to the cutting ford manufacturers recommendations with great results. Applications last months and it is easy to touch up. I know that there are many other uses for the oil but this is my main purpose for the purchase. You get a large bottle which lasts a long time and does not degrade.
