You can try moving the card closer to the sensor but you cant block the sensor. Had to install the app on my phone which is a nightmare when building the kit with my daughter due to the size of the screen. Then, there is an error on one page of the building instructions which indicated a wrong part! It wasted so much of our time trying to figure out why the pieces wouldn't fit. Not really impressed with the app in general. There is also no option to adjust the sound level on the app which is kind of loud.
