The picture of the light circuit indicates they are normally open, without magnet.** A: You are correct. Almost all of the reed switches on Amazon universally have the NO/NC descriptions backwards. Even the guy who responded to you about his RV steps was mistaken as his application would require a normally closed switch (ie. door opening and removing the magnet would allow the current to flow). I think the big misunderstanding is these vendors (and some people) think the "normal" position is with a magnet adjacent the reed switch. It is not. **Q: What color are these? Pictures suggest black, but description says white.** A: Mine came in black **Q: Can this be used in a 12v application? I wanted to use ground to trigger a negative input(car alarm application)** A: Yes, I am also using it for 12V lights. You limit is going to be the 0.5amp load. **Q: Are these waterproof or at least water resistant?** A: Yes . It is water proof . Just only wires connection for sensor ( over 10'' long) must be in dry area. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works perfectly and attached to my existing alarm without issue. *by G***N on November 21, 2025* Worked perfectly! I have a security system with door/window open alarms. One of the sensors got damaged and these spliced right onto the alarm unit meaning I don't have to replace the entire alarm. I only needed to replace the damaged sensor end. Saved me a bundle. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reed Switch Kit Provides Good Value *by G***Y on November 28, 2025* These switches are in the closed position when the magnet is close and opens when the magnet is about 3/4" away. All five switches worked perfectly and the included double-sided tape made installation easy. ### ⭐ Terrible switches, and not NC! *by I***E on January 9, 2022* These are not NC switches, they are NO. Also they work terribly, sometimes not triggering, and other times staying on even after the magnet is removed. Purchased "Black NC" December 2021. Wasted a ton of time wiring them up only to find they don't work correctly (or at all). About to waste more time returning them to get my money back. They're sending a UPS guy to my house to pick them up tomorrow. What a stupid waste; they can't be resold and should just be thrown away. I recommend buying these from a reputable vendor instead. ## Frequently Bought Together - Gebildet 5pcs Recessed Wired Security Window Gate Contact Sensor Alarm Magnetic Reed Switch Black, Magnetic Door Sensor, Normally Closed Magnetic Switch - Sensaphone Web600 Web-Monitor Alarm, No Land Line Needed - 14AWG Speaker Wire, GearIT Pro Series 14 AWG Gauge Speaker Wire Cable (100 Feet / 30.48 Meters) Great Use for Home Theater Speakers and Car Speakers Black --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pt/products/235404839-5pcs-recessed-wired-security-window-gate-contact-sensor-alarm-magnetic](https://www.desertcart.pt/products/235404839-5pcs-recessed-wired-security-window-gate-contact-sensor-alarm-magnetic) --- *Product available on Desertcart Portugal* *Store origin: PT* *Last updated: 2026-10-12*
