Review: Great Budget Starter Cameras - I've wanted to review these for a long time. I did a lot of research on PoE (power over ethernet) cameras that are compatible with Synology NAS (network attached storage) devices, and these came up consistently in the top of just about everyone's budget camera list, and even in the top 10 on a list of cameras overall. While these cameras can be used as standalone cameras since they accept microSD cards for internal video clip storage, most people I've looked at used a Synology NAS to store their video. These cameras are 5 megapixel, which is a good resolution for many applications, and is higher than 1080 HD. 1080p HD is 1920 x 1080, while 5 megapixel is 2592 x 1944. This resolution is good enough to get very detailed stills and video, even being able to catch detailed license place numbers on passing cars, depending on the speed they're traveling. Where Reolink really shines are two VERY important areas: software and app support, and customer service. Reolink has computer software that runs on all platforms, with installers for Windows, Mac, IOS, and Android, and Linux/BSD support is available via fully-supported Browser intergrations. I've tested both the Windows software and the IOS app, and they both worked flawlessly. You can receive motion alerts via the software if a camera detects motion. These smart alerts can be tailored to say if a person was detected, or a vehicle. The individual cameras' detection zone can also be customized, so that a tree in the view of the camera won't trip the motion detection if the wind is blowing. That section of the view can be excluded. Very cool. The other area where Reolink shines is their customer service and support. I have had several email conversations with them, even prior to making any purchases. While I haven't had to reach out to them for technical support due to an issue, I've read plenty of others' reviews where they have, and Reolink is very attentive and helpful. Based on my pre-purchase experience, I can't imagine anything different. For the purchase price of around $50USD, these cameras are a fantastic value. You can splurge a bit and go up to around $80 to get the 4k/8 megapixel version, but for most uses, this is overkill. Reolink also makes a similar camera that instead of having a fixed zoom, has an optical zoom, making it ideal for areas that you want to zoom into, such as down a long driveway. Depending on model, there's a 3x or 4x optical zoom, which run anywhere from just over $100, to nearly $200, depending on features.
Review: Great camera, easy to set up. Onvif and RTSP make it HomeKit compatible - Loving this camera, it is so fast to show the footage. Crisp and clean, detection is great as well. I might have to get an NVR at some points, but with Scrypted this reports great in HomeKit as well.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone know what the nanometer wavelength is for the infrared lights on this camera? I’m hoping for at least 850 nm.**
A: Hello. Yes, the specification for the IR light is 850nm.

**Q: Does this only need an ethernet cable for power or does it need a power adapter also? I tried plug mine up and it has no power with both.**
A: Hello. This 5MP Outdoor camera RLC-510A is a PoE camera. 1. You can power it with a DC 12V/1A adapter and connect it to the router with an ethernet cable. 2. Another way is to connect it to a PoE switch (IEEE 802.3af, 48V active) with an ethernet cable, and when the PoE switch connects to the power and Internet (such as a router), the camera can receive power and network from the PoE switch. 3. PoE NVR is also an option: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D2TQXJW For more questions, please contact us via Amazon Message.

**Q: where is this made from?**
A: Hello, Reolink products are made in China.

**Q: Is this camera onvif compliant/compatible? if so, which protocol?**
A: Take a look at AI-HomeGuard software (running on PC/Windows 10, Linux Nvidia Jetson Nano) - search keyword “ai-homeguard” at Amazon. The AI based software eliminates any false alarm without missing positive events, sends email alerts, and records detected objects (person, car, dog …) on your PC; remote access alert images, recordings and live view of all your home cameras from remote devices. No cloud service needed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great camera, easy to set up. Onvif and RTSP make it HomeKit compatible
*by V***S on September 23, 2026*

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The proper bullet camera addition to my original system kit.
*by D***S on August 22, 2026*

I bought this camera to see a blind spot not covered by the original four cameras that came in my kit. It took some investigating but it is the right camera to expand my wired Reolink 4 camera kit, even though the kit cameras were model B500. Camera works very well now. But I had to update the system software before it would start. It was a hassle to download the update to a memory stick via a laptop, unzip the files, take them out of the folders they defaulted to and then plug the memory stick into the NVR. After which however, the system upgraded and the new camera came on. I have found, for me, overall, Reolink's instructions are hard to understand.
