If you decide to make one of these for your house, make sure to use thin/light wood for the base, you’ll need some thicker wood as a frame and to have something to screw into. Oh! Also there is a left & a right. (Dad and I had some good laughs putting these up!) Another tip, if you end up putting in a latch…. The first works fine. But the second lid won’t stay up. Did we do something wrong or is there something wrong with the hinges?** A: You need to make sure that sorings are in place, they should keep the lid in open position, providing they were installed firmly. **Q: Will these support a 30lb door?** A: I cannot say for sure about a 30lb door, but I think that would be pushing it. My biggest regret with these hinges is that they do not open a full 90 degrees. I did not understand that this would allow them to close quickly with the slightest touch. I used them on an Ikea footstool, and the lid is very heavy. It lifts fine and stays most of the time, but with just a touch it will slam shut. If I were doing it over again, I would opt for at least 90 degrees open and perhaps a soft close for safety. Amazon has some of these for just $2 more. **Q: What is the weight load per hinge?** A: I used these hinges to build a custom toolbox. For space-saving reasons, I removed the springs which snap-and-hold the hinges at their open/closed positions. The layer of tools I’ve got attached to the hinges is about 10 lbs. When the hinges are flipped up to 80°, even without the springs, those 10 lbs of tools are held up quite nicely until I tip it back down.
