I tried to fix it, but the variable speed broke so it's all or nothing, and I need lower speeds. It was noisy and made to around the same cheap quality as this. However it was supplied with a much bigger kit, far better case and tool arrangement inside than this, and I know times have changed, but it was the same money (about 5 years ago). The first thing that struck me was the packaging being so cheap and nasty. The tools come in separate tiny plastic blocks which look like they were thrown together by some Chinese company for pennies. So I will be completely discarding it and using my existing case with proper tool holders.The sanding discs aren't even marked up. You get two tubes and neither one says what grit it is. Would it really have hurt to label them?The tool itself has a speed setting from 5 to 35, so I'm guessing that's 500 to 35,000 RPM? But the instructions say 1-6 as others have pointed out. So when reading the guide you have to work out in your head what it translates to. I expect this from Chinese companies that have trouble with English, but this is Draper. They normally have quality products (at least 10 or more years ago when I last bought them).The variable speed dial is also set too deep into the body, so you have to dig your hard into it to turn. Not easy with gloves on, and let's face it you want to be wearing gloves when using these things.Worst about the instructions is the "maintenance" section, which is basically "Don't drop it" "Keep it dry" - Nothing about when and where to order new bushes from. Because at some point they do wear out and a contact number, e-mail or something would be good, just to show some level of after market care.Okay, enough with dumping on it, I did find a few good things to make me want to keep it:The power, being 180watt makes it torquey. So it doesn't slow down so much when pressed against something (my other one did this).The extension tool: My other needed two tools and 3 hands to swap out the bits. This one has a better system of needing 1 or even none. Just pull the out sleeve back which is spring loaded and twist the collar to pull it out. I was using with the spanner at first but then tried just finger tightening and it seems to hold well (would use the spanner on higher speeds with metal cutting bits though, just to be safe). I cannot tell you how much time this saves when you constantly want to change bits. I'm still getting used to it but it's a much better system.The warranty is questionable, as it says it's 2 year parts and 1 year labour, and you have to send it off or find a dealer. But it doesn't tell you where to find one, just gives you an address for head office and a phone number.Time will tell if this lasts. One last thing, it would have been nice to include a polish compound for use with the polishing mops, as they are useless without it. I have to wait a week now for some to arrive that I had to order separately. This came with my last kit. I guess times have changed.
