Its perfect for valve and cam covers, timing chain covers, water pumps, carb assembly. when you want one side to stick so you can take it apart without a chisel and a lot of grief, this is the stuff you use. When it says it stays flexible, that's what they mean. The average shade tree mechanic can put this in a box for later, come back in five years and its good as new. Skip all the silicone stuff that goes solid in the tube in a few months. There's probably plenty of household uses I hadn't even considered. I'm going to go looking at all those drippy angle stops and such.
Review: Excellent alternative to silicone, but not a replacement. - Here we have the quintessential old-school gasket "helper" sealant. No tool box should be without it. This sealant is NOT silicone based, which can be a great thing or a bad thing. The good thing is that it doesn't harden and peel off smooth surfaces like silicone, and it doesn't stick things together like glue like silicone. Be sure you're using it for it's intended purpose. For me, I use it to lightly coat paper gaskets used with oil or water. Just a smidgen on a gasket goes a LONG way. If the sealing surfaces are extremely flat and true to each other, this will work great as well, even without a gasket. If there are surface irregularities, silicone might be a better plan. Just like silicone, this gasket maker can cause gaskets to "squirt out" when tightened, but my experience is that it does not do so as badly as silicone since it's less of a lubricant in it's "wet" state. The good thing is that if you let the Permatex #2 "set up" for an hour or so, before installing the gasket, it does much better to help increase the seal, whereas silicone simply turns to a solid mass and doesn't add to making the gasket seal better. Wear some gloves if you don't want this stuff to get all over your hands; it doesn't easily come off with soap and water, but acetone will remove it in short order. Perhaps the best thing about this stuff is that unlike silicone, it is far less likely to turn to a solid mass in the tube before you have a chance to use it again.

**Q: After application, will removing a paper gasket from the intake manifold cause it to tear or will it have to be scraped off?**
A: You will need to scrap

**Q: will it take place of o ring?**
A: My opinion only here...it will take the place of a gasket..An o ring......I would not recommend...

**Q: Is this a good choice for the water pump gasket (stamped metal) on a Kubota tractor?**
A: I have used this on pumps before with out any problems, both water and mineral oil based fluids. My first choice for your application would be an RTV compound. Hope this helps.

**Q: I have a leak and need to remove the oil pan. I only apply the seal to the oil pan and not on the oil pan frame on the car before the gasket install?**
A: I have used Yamabond 4 to seal the two halves of the engine block without any other gasket. . I guess I would use it for this oil pan too. With a gasket I would also use this. I think permatex has something simular.

Used this on all the hose and fitting connections. A thin smear on any connection and the little drips go away. Helped save my sanity when changing to a sand filter for my above ground pool. Wish I would have started with this stuff instead of the tape.
