Review: So happy with my Oyama rice cooker - I sold my old rice cooker in an estate a few years ago and have missed it so much that I ordered this Oyama. No more burned rice for me! It's so easy. I use 1 1/2 cups of Hinode oriental rice and 3 cups of water and I get perfect rice in 18 minutes. What could be easier? I chose a stainless steel product so I wouldn't be eating Teflon. The rice does stick just a little even though I use a little olive oil, but it's easy to clean up. You do want to keep the rice cooker on a counter where a few sprinkles of water splash out when it is on full boil. I am so glad I bought it!

We just wanted one that was a sufficient size to have extra cooked rice in the refrigerator for a few more days, for the 2 of us. Also, we wanted an automatic shutoff which it has. We love brown rice which when cooked to the "right texture" is so flavorful even before adding anything. My wife has been gluten free since a child, by necessity. Out of respect to her, at least after our daughter moved out at the start of college 15 years ago, I have become "gluten free" in my eating habits at home and learned to love it with brown rice and a certain local bakery's excellent gluten free bread. I am so glad I did not follow thru on buying a more complicated rice cooker even though some offered more options then just cooking brown rice.

**Q: Has anyone tried the small amount of 1 cup uncooked brown rice with success?**
A: the amount of rice is too small and spread out in the relative large pot and not totally covered up by the suggested amount of water will lead to poorly made rice. Try at least 2 cups of rice which we had success with or buy a smaller rice cooker

**Q: Can it cook just 2 cups of uncooked rice, or what is the minimum cups of uncooked rice to avoid burning?  Thanks.**
A: Yes for 2 cups rice. Just remember there is not an auto shutoff, so if the power is left on in the warm position after cooking the rice will burn at some point.

**Q: Can an extra stackable steamer tray be acquired and will they stack?**
A: They will stack but the tray is not available as a separate purchase yet.

**Q: Is Oyama a Japanese brand?**
A: According to the research I did, it is made in China.

I agonized over what should be a simple purchase. I had my last rice cooker for 10 years, but I wanted stainless, so that limited my choices. Then there was price. I make rice and quinoa maybe once a week, so how much is too much for a rice cooker?! This is the perfect compromise. Good reviews, not huge in size, so not a storage hassle. It doesn't have the timer and delayed start that my last one had, but I never used those features anyway. I have NO trouble with water splashing out through the steam hole, but I rarely make more than 2 cups of uncooked rice or quinoa. I had to add more water to brown rice the first time that I used it, but I just added a little more water and turned it back on. I recommend spraying the bottom with cooking spray, and not letting residual rice and starch dry on it- so do yourself a favor and put some water in it while you're eating, but honestly, cleanup has been a scrub-free snap!
