I used for many months now. Battery lasts great! I retrieve data over optical cable for analysis on the macOS - no problems there. Review: Nice weather meter. - Pretty accurate device. The only issue is that the air temperature reading is slow to adjust when the winds are calm, especially if you take the device from inside a warm house out into the cold. Point the thermistor into the wind and the temperature will adjust more quickly. Update: I recently visited the summit of Mt. Washington and got to test this Kestrel meter. The altimeter and barometer adjusted perfectly as we ascended the auto road to the summit at 6288'. Works fine at 800 millibars and in strong winds. Altimeter matched the altitude marked on poles along the road. ## Features - Improved display, processor and data logging. Same dependable weather measurements, including wind direction, headwind and crosswind - Rugged, waterproof and reliable in the most demanding conditions. IP67 & MIL spec rated - Optional wireless Link communication with the free Kestrel Link app and compatible PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices - Country of origin: United States ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B017AF1SAS | | Additional Features | Digital Compass, Wind Direction, Crosswind, Headwind/Tailwind, Altitude, Pressure trend, Barometric pressure, Wet bulb temperature, Relative humidity in %, Heat stress index, Dewpoint, Density altitude, chill, Air, water, and snow temperature °F or °C, Data Logger, Customizable data storage- 12,000 points, User-replaceable impeller, Waterproof floats | | Best Sellers Rank | #94,188 in Sports & Outdoors ( See Top 100 in Sports & Outdoors ) #5 in Weather Monitors | | Brand | Kestrel | | Brand Name | Kestrel | | Color | Yellow | | Connectivity Technology | 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 76 Reviews | | Display Type | LCD | | Finish Type | Rubberized | | Frequency | 2400 MHz | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00730650001941 | | Included Components | Instruction Manual | | Item Dimensions D x W x H | 0.7"D x 4.8"W x 0.7"H | | Item Highlight | Non-LiNK, Yellow | | Item Type Name | fishing accessories and supplies | | Item Weight | 1.12 ounces | | Manufacturer | Kestrel | | Material | plastic or rubber | | Material Type | plastic or rubber | | Model | 0855YEL | | Number of Batteries | 1 AA batteries required. | | Number of Items | 1 | | Part Number | 0855YEL | | Power Source | Battery Powered | | Recommended Uses For Product | Residential, commercial, agricultural, and research applications | | Sensor Technology | Ultrasonic | | Shape | Rectangular | | Special Feature | Digital Compass, Wind Direction, Crosswind, Headwind/Tailwind, Altitude, Pressure trend, Barometric pressure, Wet bulb temperature, Relative humidity in %, Heat stress index, Dewpoint, Density altitude, chill, Air, water, and snow temperature °F or °C, Data Logger, Customizable data storage- 12,000 points, User-replaceable impeller, Waterproof floats Special Feature Digital Compass, Wind Direction, Crosswind, Headwind/Tailwind, Altitude, Pressure trend, Barometric pressure, Wet bulb temperature, Relative humidity in %, Heat stress index, Dewpoint, Density altitude, chill, Air, water, and snow temperature °F or °C, Data Logger, Customizable data storage- 12,000 points, User-replaceable impeller, Waterproof floats See more | | Specific Uses For Product | Residential, commercial, agricultural, and research applications | | Style Name | Modern | | Temperature Accuracy | 0.5 °C | | Temperature Reading Accuracy | plus_minus_0_point_5_degrees_celsius | | UPC | 730650001941 | | Unit Count | 3.28 Feet | | Upper Temperature Range | 50 °C | | Warranty Description | Manufacturer Warranty | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Kestrel - **Color:** Yellow - **Connectivity Technology:** 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth - **Material:** plastic or rubber - **Number of Batteries:** 1 AA batteries required. - **Power Source:** Battery Powered - **Recommended Uses For Product:** Residential, commercial, agricultural, and research applications - **Specific Uses For Product:** Residential, commercial, agricultural, and research applications - **Style:** Modern ## Images ![Kestrel 5500 - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61qmsG9gY1L.jpg) ![Kestrel 5500 - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61C1gjiOKcL.jpg) ![Kestrel 5500 - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/818jLhnh7PL.jpg) ![Kestrel 5500 - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81qWd2lJwzL.jpg) ![Kestrel 5500 - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81kRLq-l7PL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Color, Size** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Altitude measurements If you are moving from a low location to a high location, I’ll it automatically change altitude measurements as altitude changes** A: This unit uses a pressure sensing barometer. It must be initially calibrated from a known height or barometric pressure. After that, all readings will use the current pressure/altitude. A great unit. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product *by Y***L on September 26, 2025* Product as advertised. I used for many months now. Battery lasts great!
