The dead cylinder will still have gas injected or drawn in, this gas will not add to the engine power, the 3 working cylinders will not move the car as well as 4. Since the gas is going through the engine without burning, it is not adding power, it is wasted., therefore the mpg is always lower with dead cylinders. There are 8 cylinder trucks designed to run on 6 or 4 cyl's when power demand is low, they are designed to shut of the fuel injectors at the specific cylinders. **Q: Will this fit a 2008 Mercury mariner with a 2.3 Engine?** A: No they will not.
