It will clear the opening, it is 30" of an extension from the back wall to where the mount is to the back of the TV. You have to mount all 4 lag bolts to a stud to get the most strength to support the weight of the TV. **Q: Will this work with a computer monitor?** A: if yo have a small monitor you will see the bracket . the bracket does not adjust for height once it is mounted. **Q: Can the arms on the x bracket be removed if i just want to hold up a laptop? what are the dimensions of the x bracket?** A: The 4 brackets are each 10 inches long. It looks like you can remove them. We use the mount for a TV. If you install the mount on the wall horizontally (instead of vertically as we did for the TV), you might be able to set a laptop on the plate that the brackets attach to.
