    Warning! Wait... "WARNING".... that's better.

I'd probably be singing its praises if I were using it in fresh water, maybe not. Fatally flawed if used in salt water. The rear drag knob is basically a cup that once salt water gets in, it will not likely get out. I rinse my equipment after each use. Despite that, once I finally figured out how to remove the knob, I found a substantial accumulation of hardened salt. I suspect it was responsible for abrading the threads of the drag mechanism til they stripped. I don't know what they were thinking. The internal works should have been better lubricated. The handle seized in placed, I had to hammer it out. When I was able to get to the gears(which you cannot do without removing the drag knob, it really is the key to everything) I found some metal surfaces dry/unlubricated and corroding. I also had issues with the bail not closing all the way and being hard to close if too close to the close trigger. It's a shame because in so many ways it's a finely made piece of equipment that is not ready out of the box and challenges you to discover it's secrets before it's too late. The anti reverse mechanism will break if you lubricate it. It's in the instructions but is not given any special notice, bold letters that say "Warning" would be reasonable. It's an odd concept and possibly a terrible idea to have the way to protect your reel from corrosion be the one thing that can break part of it. I've had it for a month and a half. The threads that stripped are part of the main housing. I doubt I have any option other than to trash it.Edit: I regretted giving it such a low rating, so I'm raising it. The frustration of having things go so wrong so quickly was too much. A lot of what I said stands and that includes how well made it is...provided you get ahead of the possible issues. I was able to replace the damaged parts. I may drill a hole in the drag knob to allow it to drain.

Shimano Sienna Spin Reel SN 2500 RD

*by C***G on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 12, 2017*

Shimano Sienna Spin Reel SN 2500 RDAfter purchasing this reel from Amazon, I put it on a Shimano FXS-70MB 7 foot rod I have had for a while and hadn't ever used, as it was a bargain priced purchase and though I can't remember how much I paid for it, I remember it wasn't much and I couldn't justify putting a really good reel on it, so it hadn't been used. I was reading different reviews and this Sienna seemed to be right, $32.89 and free shipping from Amazon Prime. I think I like it enough for four stars. It is smooth cranking and the drag seems to at least as good as the other reels, or better and it will not be going after really big fish and used in fresh water, the drag is adequate. The rear adjust drag is going out of style and this is the second one I own. I like it well enough for now and if it excels or fails, I'll return and update what I have now.

    difficult to maintain!

*by A***5 on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 26, 2013*

I liked the idea of having the drag in the rear. It seems more convenient. The reel is smooth and the bail closes well. I went to take it apart to oil it and then the nightmare began. In order to take the side plate off you have to remove the bail but instead of having just washers and a bolt, this thing has a pin. I couldnt pull the pin out and i didn't want to pound on it hard cause the reel feels delicate. I figured I would call shimano so I dont break the thing. They tell me that I have to get the pin out. I asked them how they do it and they said they have a tool. I asked if I can order a tool and they said that it is something they picked up from a hardware store! What is up with that! After that mind blower I decided to pound the pin out with a hammer and luckily it didn't break. I yanked the bail off which is tough and I've never had that problem with any other reel. I thought I was done and then I realized I somehow needed to get the drag knob off in order to remove the side plate! There are not directions or guidance for this and I ended up getting it off by applying tons of force counterclockwise and it came off. I oiled and cleaned it and reasembled and the anti reverse quit working!I would use this reel for freshwater but I would recommend using the forward drag version if you want to go cheap for saltwater cause maintaining this thing is a nightmare. I have a wide range of cheap reels and this one is a pain! I like the concept of a rear drag but the design is horrible!
