I wish I had known about these years ago. When it arrived, I washed it in the dishwasher twice. Once with soap and once with plain water. You will notice when it dries that terracotta naturally absorbs moisture and is the perfect material in which to store garlic.I'm amazed that people would be foolish enough to buy anything glazed for this purpose. Like I said, once you see it in action, you'll realize you bought the right garlic keeper. No garlic smell in the room. And lots of space in the jar, so you won't feel cramped.There IS a duck design on it. But I face that away from the kitchen, preferring to look at a plain jar. I used to keep garlic on a paper plate and it used to smell up the place. I didn't mind, but not everyone appreciates the strong odor of garlic.
