## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the recondition mode desulfation? if not then how does it recondition? also does it desulfate in normal mode, before or after the charge? thanks!**
A: The answer to your first question about does the recondition mode desulfate a battery is not cut and dry answer, and I'll explain why further into my answer.

Desulfation is accomplished at the very first stage of charging if it is needed with a ctek charger. If it is not needed it bypasses this stage of charging. It's senses if the battery is sulfated by measuring the internal resistance of the battery. It accomplishes desulfation by pulsing a high-voltage into the battery, in other words it shoots a high-voltage into the battery and then it's stops charging momentarily then shoots another high voltage into it and then stops again.

The recondition mode removes lead acid stratification. What acid stratification is, is the water and electrolyte has separated and the electrolyte concentrates at the bottom, starving the upper half of the cell. Acid stratification occurs if the battery dwells at low charge (below 80 percent), never receives a full charge and has shallow discharges. Driving a car for short distances with power-robbing accessories engaged contributes to acid stratification because the alternator cannot always apply a saturated charge. Large luxury cars are especially prone to acid stratification. This is not a battery defect per se but is application related. But acid stratification does lead to sulfation of a battery.

The way the recondition mode works is that it raises the voltage inside the battery to over 15 volts thereby causing the water/electrolytes to Bubble so that it remixes them. The recondition mode can desulfate a mildly sulfated battery just because the higher voltage can mildly eat a small amount of sulfation off the plates but not all of it like the desulfation mode does. But it's not good to recondition a battery very often, because it does raise the voltage above the batteries and intended voltage and can burn it out, Plus it evaporates some of the water out of the battery. So after reconditioning a battery you need to check the electrolytes levels and make sure that you do not have to add more water to it.
As far as the second part of your question goes, like I said at the very beginning of my answer, desufation at the very start of the charge mode if it is needed, if it is not needed it bypasses the desulfation mode.

Now the main difference between the desulfating mode and the reconditioning mode is that the desulfating mode pulses higher voltage there by Shocking the sulfation, where destratification (called recondition mode on Ctek chargers) runs at a higher constant voltage current. Although they do operate at the same voltage, 1 pulses and the other is constant.

I hope this helps to clear up the misconceptions of what the other posters that answered your questions gave you.

**Q: What do u think guys, CTEK or NOCO?**
A: I have both Ctek and NOCO. I would recommend both based on how they have performed for me. I have 3 Cteks. Two are the low amp models. I use them to keep my motorcycle batteries charged when not riding. The first one finally quit on me after 13 years of continual use. I think I got my money's worth for it. I also bought a 3.8 amp Ctek several years ago to maintain my 12 volt RV battery. I have changed that over to a NOCO G15000 because I converted my RV battery to two 6 volt in series for 12 volts at 225 ah. At the time Ctek had nothing to handle that. I bought the NOCO for the AMPs and its recondition mode. The recondition mode is 4 hours or less. The only drawback to the NOCO is most of the accessory cables they sell are for the lower amp chargers. So check that out on NOCO's website it you want any of the accessory cables. I also use my NOCO for my other cars, one has an AGM battery and my truck that has two batteries. The higher amp charger chargers then quickly. I am now buying the Ctek MXS 7.0 or Multi 7002 to deal with my RV batteries because they will handle the 225 ah of the RV battery. I hope this will help you out. I think both are great chargers.

**Q: Does this 7002 model backup power supply when the battery disconnected? Is it possible and safe at the supply mode ?**
A: This will depend on your Car and how you hook it up. In the newer BMWs it will not provide enough power to keep the system from loosing some settings.

**Q: Can this unit be used while replacing battery to keep all electronics in ck?**
A: Yes, it has a supply mode to keep your computers, etc. powered while changing batteries. Be careful of your battery cables because they will still have ~12 volts.
