I can tell you these side cutters will easily cut through the clear plastic sprue gates found in scale plastic models, which is usually a bit harder than the plastic found in the rest of the kit. However, extremely hard and wide sprue gates may be harder to cut, and perhaps even chip or break the blades on these cutters. They are intended for removing small parts, and cutting through thin attachment points, leaving clean surfaces at the cut. They are not intended for cutting sheets of plastic or removing large areas of plastic. Hope this answers your question. **Q: Are these stainless steel?** A: Not sure about stainless, but the6 are hardened steel. Mine are kept on my workbench in an un-heated garage, and I live in a damp seaside environment (lots of salt air) and I haven’t seen any corrosion on them. However, I have some stainless tools that have seen corrosion. So, I’d say if that’s what you’re worried about, it’s not a big deal. I do keep most of my steel or alloy based tools well oiled though. But beware, these nippers are designed only for model building plastic sprue gates.
