Isn't that needed?** A: It is to be assumed that you take down your tank, no more than 20% each week when you do your water change. Prime works with your biofilter. I gauge mine by adding 1 drip per gallon of NEW water. If I take out 10 gallons, I pump in 10 gallons, then immediately put the Prime directly into the tank. Some people use other methods of replacing the water in which case you are able to add the Prime directly to the NEW water prior to pouring it into your tank. Either way it will work. FYI - if you don't already use salt, you may want to think about putting a table spoonful of aquarium salt (1 tblsp to every 5 gallons of NEW water) 10 gallons = 2 tablespoons.) into your tank to prevent your fish from stressing.
