This change is a result of what the FDA has defined as dietary folate equivalents (DFE). They determined that 0.6 mcg of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, calcium salt is equal to 1 mcg DFE. They have also determined that one mcg of naturally occurring folate is equal to one mcg DFE. Their rationale is that this accounts for the greater bioavailability (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, calcium salt compared to naturally occurring folate.
