Great choice. I use 40", however, the 20" is more portable. The top of the stand is a "Baby" mount. It's basically a 5/8" cylindrical stud. Studio strobes will generally attach directly to this stud. "Junior" studs are 1 1/8" cylindrical studs or sockets. Larger heavier lights use this mount. Combo stands have both. If you are using hot shoe mounted speedlites you will need an adapter. On amazon, search on speedlight bracket. You will have many choices. Choose one that will allow you to tilt the flash and hold an umbrella. They are $5-20.00 and will last a life time. The end opposite the hot shoe adapter is made to connect right to the "Baby" stud. It is very secure. I hope this answer helps.
