If you want high quality American-made products, you have to pay for it. If you're used to buying imported boots at Walmart, then the price of these boots will seem outlandish, but you've got to consider what an investment a good pair of boots was back in the day, before you could walk into any big box store and buy something that looks like a boot for a few hours' wages. I have no doubt these boots will last 15 years before needing to be re-soled, then last another 15 years. The construction reminds me of a pair of Addison flight boots I was issued in Pensacola and then wore for over a decade, every day, as a Naval Aviator. As everyone says, these boots have to be broken in before you you can enjoy them. After three days, I'd say they're finally loosening up a bit. Having been home from work for four hours now, I'm still wearing them in my living room. They're not combat boots. They're just a really sturdy medium-height shoe, which probably won't keep your feet warm in the snow (with no insulation), but they'll at least keep your feet dry and you'll have traction walking around in typical northern slush. And in the absence of a lined insole, you can wear them year-round.I've gotten multiple compliments on these boots from people who never comment on such things (including my wife).I highly recommend going to a Redwing store and trying on these boots before you buy them on Amazon. They do run small. I usually wear an 11D and I ended up buying a 10.5.UPDATE:They've broken in quite well. I can literally wear them all day long, and have worn them on numerous day trips around D.C. with extensive walking and have no issues. My only complaint is that the rough inside leather makes it difficult to get them on or off without unlacing them quite a bit. A smooth lining would have helped this, but then that's something which would probably wear out eventually, whereas with this design, the leather inside will never wear a hole through it. Hopefully it will smoothen after putting them on and off a few hundred times. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pay for Quality *by B***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2016* Some things are worth giving up the extra money in order to get a long period of use. Jackets, watches, tools, and shoes. I always liked the classic look of the Beckmans so I thought I'd give them a shot.Going half or a full size down is correct. I wear a 11 dress shoe, a 12 Nike running shoe, and the 10.5 Red Wing worked for me. 10 might have worked but I didn't risk it.The break in period is still going. Only been about 10 eight hour days and they are still stiff. The first day feels like concrete blocks on your feet. A long break in period means a long no breaking period.I chose the cigar featherstone. Hope the photos help those interested. It's a very rich color and for me a little more interesting than the dark brown.The overall construction is excellent. I cannot find a flaw. I'll update the review with the long haul wear. Seems like they're built to last a decade, get a resole, and go another 10. Let's wait and see. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Glad I'm not picky *by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2017* My review is on my initial thoughts since I have just taken them out the box and tryed them on. I have no idea on the longevity of these boots.1st upon inspecting the boot fresh out of the box there were some nicks and scratchs. So if your worried about a perfect shoe then I suggest go to a store and purchase from there. Luckily I'm not picking about that kind of thing and in my opinion just helps me get to that worn look that makes red wing. The fit for me is true to my boot size which is full size down from my sneaker size. If you wear chuck taylors size should be about the same if that helps. The boot feels well made sturdy. However these boots are heavy. My pair seemed to have been tryed on previous to me getting them again not a big deal to me but something I felt I should note. Wasn't sure if I would like the black cherry but it's a great color. Got too many brown and black boots already. Hoping the iron rangers fit the same because that's going to be my next purchase.
