It's large and solid, and the hose is surprisingly good, contrary to some others' complaints. It's a fairly thick and robust vinyl hose, so when coiled up tightly in its packaging, it does tend to kink and keeps it's coiled-up shape, but that is the EASIEST thing to fix! I boiled a kettle of water, poured it into a large, cold steel pot to cool it a little, then threw the hose in for 10 seconds. (DO NOT overheat the hose). The hose came out super soft and pliable, making it easy to install on the gun and the pickup snorkel. Then I hung the set to let the hose cool off. No more kinks or springy coiling! The hose remains flexible and is truly the perfect choice for this blaster. I used this gun for walnut-shell blasting the intake ports of a BMW 335i N54 engine. After 130k miles, the entire intake system was really badly coated with oil from crankcase vapors that are intentionally sucked into the intake to reduce emissions. The oil in that vapor condenses on every surface in the intake system and eventually makes its way to the valves, where it becomes baked-on in a hardened, rubbery black mess that becomes thicker and thicker over time, leading to severely constricted airflow and poor engine performance/economy. I modified the black metal nozzle in this kit, by drilling it out so that I could tap in the long stainless steel wand of a BMW blasting nozzle sold at FCP Euro and elsewhere. I connected the gun to an air compressor and connected a ShopVac to a BMW vacuum attachment for the ports. I bought 25lb of FINE (24 grit) walnut shell abrasive media at Harbor Freight Tools and threw it in a 5 gallon bucket. The heavy, weighted snorkel did a good job of sinking into the media as I used it up, as long as I wasn't accidentally pulling or pushing too much on the hose. One thing to note... Without being able to see the end of my modified nozzle, I sometimes accidentally pressed it into the muck at the bottom of the intake ports, which gives the compressed air nowhere else to go but out of the media hose and snorkel! That causes a backfire, where media is ejected from the snorkel with a loud pop, and media is blown all over the place. Operator error with bad consequences! Blasting valves is a nerve-wracking process because you do not want abrasive walnut shells getting inside the combustion chambers! I discovered that the firing order for this particular engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4, and the engine spins in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front of the car. To make sure that the intake valves are fully seated and sealed during the blasting operation, ensure that its corresponding piston is near the top of its compression stroke (TDC). This will also maintain a constant pressure inside the cylinder, on the face of each valve being blasted. I used a ratchet on the crankshaft pulley to advance the engine 60 degrees clockwise between each port blasting. For reference, when cylinder 1 reaches TDC, the intake valves on cylinder 3 are closing (two ahead in the firing sequence). When cylinder 5 reaches TDC, the intake valves on cylinder 6 are closing, and so on. That helped me to find TDC each time. Before blasting each port, make sure that ALL other intake ports are stuffed tightly with clean rags to prevent walnut shells getting inside, because they do fly around everywhere. This was a tedious and messy process, and required a little extra help from a long steel pick at times, but the ports and valves came out sparkling clean, with NO oil or carbon left on them. It took only a few minutes of blasting on each port, but the disassembly and reassembly of the intake, along with the careful sequencing and preparation between the blasting of each port, took a couple of long days to complete. The results have been fantastic. The engine feels silky-smooth and as good as new again. This time, I've installed an oil catch can to try to condense the oil in the crankcase vapors BEFORE it gets into the intake system. It's a fairly thick and robust vinyl hose, so when coiled up tightly in its packaging, it does tend to kink and keeps it's coiled-up shape, but that is the EASIEST thing to fix! I boiled a kettle of water, poured it into a large, cold steel pot to cool it a little, then threw the hose in for 10 seconds. (DO NOT overheat the hose). The hose came out super soft and pliable, making it easy to install on the gun and the pickup snorkel. Then I hung the set to let the hose cool off. No more kinks or springy coiling! The media I'm using it for is glass bead. Not using the siphon from a bucket hose but I'd assume it will work that well also.
