The film is fantastic- a blend of intimate, serious dialogue with sudden bursts of choreographed dance and songs- from just two people to a crowd, it will take you from a quiet moment to a sudden explosion of pace and action. The film divided people into love and hate camps- but I was honestly blown away by it. I loved the manic, visually dazzling dance numbers juxtaposed against the very realistic conversations between two people falling in love. The director used music, editing pace and silent pauses to perfection. The jewel tones of the settings, the magic of the scenes- this really is a tremendous film which gives you the highs and lows of emotion, without being too slick. The soundtrack is superb, (same writer/director as Whiplash, another great film) and you'll be humming the haunting tunes for weeks. Brilliant acting, heartfelt storyline, visually a feast.
