Over time the valves had become sticky on both of my horns, a Bach Strad and an Olds Ambassador. They progressively got worse and worse.  (This caused some very anxious moments!) I had an important engagement come up for the weekend and could not wait for a product such as Magic Valve to arrive, so I removed the valve tips and locking rings and placed the small shaft into my cordless electric drill.  I smeared a small amount of Ultra Brite Tooth Paste at several spots around the valve and carefully inserted it into the casing while rotating it ever so slowly so as not to damage anything.  Then I slowly worked it up and down in the casing from the top and from the bottom while continuing to rotate the valve at a fairly slow speed.  It worked like a charm.  I gave both horns a bath following the lapping, and some ugly brown stuff came off the valves.  I am guilty of drinking coffee while playing and now attribute my problem to that.  I always brush after eating before playing, but didn't realize that coffee would cause a problem.  Now, I can't ever remember the valves working so smoothly.  Hopefully this post will help you, too.

it's not going to fix bent valves but for gummy and sticky valves, this stuff really works well.  it's basically a rubbing compound and if you follow the directions it will make a big difference.  used it to free up my son's trumpet!  2 cons: it's a bit messy and requires some elbow grease as they want you to move the valve up and down a lot of times.
