Don't give CableJive anything less than 5 stars without calling them first
CableJive dockStubz+ Charge Converter and 30-pin Pass Through Adapter for iPhone, iPod, and iPad Top Line - CableJive in general is clearly top drawer. My advice - if you don’t want to bother with the details of my own experience, and if you do buy from them, do not give them anything less than a 5 star review unless you have first discussed your concerns with them. They know their stuff cold, and deliver an exceptionally high quality product. Here is my experience. It may be an education for you, especially if you are working with an older 12v power source and trying to charge and communicate with a new Apple device, all of which take only 5 volts.First, in general, we all know that these aftermarket non-Apple cable/adapter purchases for use with Apple devices are a huge roll of the dice, with many/most getting 1, 2 or 3 star reviews. So when I saw their average 4 star review for their audio-to-30 pin adapter, I figured even thought it was expensive, it had to be a winner, and it was. That led me to wishing for more, and calling them, predicting they couldn’t deliver a solution, but they did. I was astounded. Now for the deeper background.I have an older BMW 5 series with which I originally had one of the first iPods (30 pin adapter) hooked up via an aftermarket CD Changer adapter that was wired directly to the car’s audio system. Worked great. I installed the old iPod underneath my armrest and the iPod would begin charging when my radio came on and I could hit any of the first 5 radio tuner buttons to be taken instantly to any of the the first 5 playlists as setup in iTunes, or the up/down buttons on the steering wheel to move to the next song within the playlist. But recently I decided I wanted a more recent, iPhone 4 sized iPod with wifi capability to mount on my dash, and purchased same.To get it to work I purchased a 30 pin extender cable, wired it behind the dash, and also purchased an Apple 30-pin-to-lightning adapter cable, to attach onto the end of the extender cable and then back out in front of the dash to the new iPod. Audio-wise that worked great too, all except the power, which did not come through for charging. So I had to purchase an extra USB to lightning cable and get power from my cigarette lighter adapter, which in turn meant constantly switching the two cables back and forth to charge or play the audio. Big hassle. Then I spotted CableJive’s audio-to-30 pin adapter and figured if that worked I could get my audio from the iPod’s audio port, and keep my charging power via the cigarette lighter to lightning adapter cable plugged in permanently. Presto, it worked. Very surprised, and no more cable switching. But then I realized the radio tuner and steering wheel buttons could no longer control the playlist and song-changing functions, plus the two cables had a bit of a Rube Goldberg look. The CableJive package said call them if any questions. So I did, and got a voicemail to leave a message. A day or two later they called back, by which time I had reflected further and concluded no way could they get around that one, and told them same. But then they informed me that with my original lightning adapter setup, the reason the new iPod originally wasn’t getting power was because it was rejected the old 12 volt power source, and I needed instead just to purchase their (small) DockStuz, which had a 12v to 5v converter built-in. I was astonished and skeptical but quickly purchased same, and when it arrived and was installed 2 days later, after firing up, and actually getting the boom boom of Shakira’s “Try Everything” I was saying, “I can’t believe it!” One cable - full functionality. So if you got this far, you got the message. Got a problem? Thinking less than 5 stars? Call them. CableJive dockStubz+ Charge Converter and 30-pin Pass Through Adapter for iPhone, iPod, and iPad
