Poly-carbonate lid, metal hinge and latches. This is not a luxury case, but is well made and good value for money. The inserts and box itself have strategically placed reinforcements in the design, ribbing on corners etc so things do not feel flimsy. Cases, stack, lock and things stay in their compartments. MADE IN ISRAEL. So refreshing to see a case like this NOT made in China. The model ending 517 appears to be the one with metal latches and weatherproof seal, unlike the 519. I would like to have twice as many inserts of half the size personally, but this depends on your usage if ten is the right amount for you. Overall nice case and recommended. UPADTE: I have owned several of these for years and they are still going fine.
