Can easily cut through delicate materials and multiple thicknesses of leather. I have used them to cut cardboard and aluminum sheets and other materials that they weren't intended for. These are about a large as you need, any larger and they become difficult to handle unless you have very large hands and arm strength to operate.

**Q: Would you concider these good garage scissors?**
A: They are.  But be aware they are very sharp and will easily cut anything including human skin.  In addition, although one can cut materials that quite thick, it advised to wear a pair of gloves to protect the hands when pressure is applied to the scissor handles.

**Q: Where is it made ?**
A: Mine were made in the USA...  but I bought them in 1975

**Q: Will these shears cut indoor/outdoor carpeting that has a backing such as the green lawn look-alike carpeting you see everywhere?**
A: I purchased to trim vinyl blinds which cut effortlessly.  Haven't tried cutting carpet,  but scissors are large and I would guess carpet would be no problem

**Q: Are the grips on these comfortable to use? Is there plenty of room in the handles?**
A: The grips aren't padded or anything, just metal. But they have a nice comfortable shape to them. My hands are pretty average sized, never had an issue with them fitting in. A coworker of mine has real thick hands and he hasn't had an issue either.

I am way behind on reviews for all I've purchased over the years from Amazon. I just got a request to review this product and these are so good I had to stop and put in my 2 bits as my dad used to say. I saw the great reviews and always meant to get a good pair of scissors for the shop. Bargain scissors aren't worth having when put to the litmus test as my mom used to say. I've used them for cutting leather, rubber sheeting and it still clips the thin plastic bags that small parts come in. I don't think thin sheet metal would be a problem. You'll notice first thing how much they weigh. They have a quality feel, comfortable to size large hands and glide smoothly as they cut. I believe this is the type of scissor that they use in murder mysteries because I was never afraid of regular scissors. Liked them so much I ordered a second pair for the kitchen the next day.
