The battery not only holds a charge for an extended amount of time (like months) it also allows you to work with it for a lot longer than the competitors do. When our power went out and our special-needs daughter needed to know she had a flashlight to get to the bathroom, this little champion was right there! The actual light produced is incredible, and there are two settings. The actual light produced is so clear and seriously bright, even over two years later! I love the fact that it really does stand up on its own without tipping over. I also love that the head pivots to so many incriments to make it a hero at any job. A flashlight is one of those things that, well, when you need it, you need it. You probably do not have the luxury of recharging it at that moment, right? This one will not let you down. I would seriously consider it for any gift list! Yes, you have to buy the battery and charger, like most of its competitors. These are well worth it.
