My spikes have been cemented in for 5 years. The trick to getting them out is to drill carefully into the holes in the cleat to deepen the slightly without hitting the underlying cleat receptacle. Then use needle nose pliers which have more leverage and bam, they come out with a little elbow grease. After cleaning out the receptacles the new cleats went in easily.
