If you look closely at the picture, you can see two bands of elastic that hold the ruffle in place. It fits around the box spring, not under the mattress, so you can pull it down as far as you like. **Q: In the photo, the twin/full bed skirt is shown going around the foot of the box spring . . . . The ruffle does go around 3 sides, doesn't it?** A: Judging by my experience it will definitely go around 3 sides--we got Queen/King size and I was worried because our King Size Bed is huge but it went around the double box springs with plenty to spare. BTW it takes about 2 minutes to put it on--the hardest work will just be ironing it and positioning it the way you want. I accidently bought 2 so I ended up making a double skirt (one lower than the other) and it looks amazing.
