They have machined teeth, not an abrasive coating. These are not precision honed pieces, however. I haven't used them for a lot, but they took down a sharp edge on an aluminum block. They are not very aggressive so it may take a while to do significant edges or remove significant material. But, these are needle files so they're generally not for larger tasks. There are the standard shapes for all your different applications/needs.The grips were a major selling point. They have a hard plastic section (the yellow with the logo) and a "soft grip" section (the black). I wonder if the soft grip will last, but it seems decent. Again, for the price, if they do succumb to heavy use, they can be replaced without too much heartache. These are nicer than the PVC dipped needle files and MUCH nicer than the ones that lack any sort of coating/grip/cover on the handle.The case is unexpectedly nice. The insert that holds the files is kinda cheap and would have issues with heavy use. If you're careful, though, it should last. The files do "clip" into this insert so they won't fall out. The exterior case is pretty solid and should withstand a fair amount of use. Obviously, if you threw it across the driveway, or even dropped it just right, it would probably break as it's just hard plastic. But, it is nicer than I expected for the price.Overall, pleasantly surprised at the value. I would buy these again. If they made larger ones or different grits, I would also buy those. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Are they the world's best files? No *by A***. on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2016* Are they the world's best files? No, but they do a pretty good job. I mostly used them on brass and aluminum for small metalworking/watchmaking projects, but I also used them on a lathe on both wood and metal. They kept their edge pretty well over time. A few seem to have worn down ever so slightly, but I've been using them very heavily. If I was building my dream workshop, I'd probably get better files than these, but for the average use these really do the job. They're a lot more comfortable to hold than the typical hard-handled or worse yet, non-handled files, and this cuts down on blisters from repetitive grinding.For $10, it's really hard to be happier with a set of 6 tools that last longer than a month. The only similar purchase in that price range for a box of tools I can remember was a set of Harbor Freight chisels I got with my lathe way back when, and those seem to be made out of some sort of impossible material that looks like steel but is actually mud, since lathing BASSWOOD made them lose an edge in an afternoon. If you want files that will at worst need to be replaced maybe once a year (if you're actually using them) or for the normal user, quite some time down the road, get these. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty good. I've had files this size before that didn't have the rubber grips and they were hard to work with and always left my hands raw. Only time will tell if the grips stay on or if they come loose like those big ones with the orange plastic handles always do. I like that they have a case but the case latch sucks and will no doubt end up broken. Also I have a hard time getting them out when all of the files are in the case. There's no room for my fingers to pry them up.
