However, it may not remove any residue of gum or glue, which often comes with paper that is being shredded. I'm not sure whether there's a solution for that, or if the shredder should be opened up and cleaned with a suitable material. As far as this product is concerned, it is a lubricant that has been time-tested to perform its intended function. A bit expensive in India as it's imported, and thus 1 star less.

A: apply oil from one side to the other

**Q: Can it kill pets?**
A: Reading the MSDS sheet for the oil and it is Canola Oil. So most likely won't kill a pet but you should keep it away from them. http://sites.fellowes.com/Fellowes/Materials/Documents/MSDS_35250.pdf

**Q: My shredder gets light usage - how do I know when to oil?**
A: I have a nice Royal paper shredder that crosscuts 16 papers at once.  It advises against the use of oil.   I don't think oil is need in the cutters themselves.  I think they are just selling cheap oil to make money.  Why use canola oil of all things?

**Q: This oil seems to leave gum-like residues. I read that it contains plain canola oil. Would olive oil or soybean oil be a better vegetable oil choice?**
A: i'm not sure if the jar you got is defective possibly... I haven't had any gum like residue at all from my fellows shredder oil... In fact I like it very much... I wouldn't put any other type of oil in because it may compromise the machine

Just what you need to keep your Fellowes shredder oiled, and well maintained, helping to extend its shelf-life. I shred a batch of documents about every 2 months, so using this just before I start helps loosen up the gears from the periods of non-use. It doesn't need a lot and I'd say there's probably about a good 40-50 uses in a single bottle purchase, definitely worth it.
