Am thinking of purchasing these mats to put in my trailer to stop the mower moving around. Do you think they would be suitable and hard wearing? T** A: My opinion is no. These mats are heavy and great at reducing vibration. For the purpose you intend, I think there are 3 draw backs. First, they are an expensive solution to your problem. Straps and an old blanket may be a better idea. Second is the texture of the material itself. Up close, the rubber mat does not have a smooth or glossy finish. It appears to be made of tens of thousands of small rubber pellets partially melted together. This leaves lots (and I mean lots) of very small dimples and divots that will catch a sharp edge of something like gardening equipment and pull large chunks out of the mat. Third. If you try gently folding the mat, the pellets on the outside of the curve break their partial bonding and cause the mat to rip. This tells me it'd be great under the compression of a heavy washing machine but will get damaged by the tensile force of gardening equipment moving laterally during sudden breaking when being towed. That's a lot of weight, noise and vibrations and the mat handled them all with ease.Mat is made from some sort of rubber, consisting of many tiny fragments glued/pressed in some way. It's rigid to the point that it's not too easy to cut it to size (thin & very sharp knife is a must) and at the same time it absorbs vibrations even from really heavy objects like full-sized home appliances (washing machine, tumble dryer and so on).So even though 5mm thickness may not be that convincing at the start, it really is enough to get those results. The vibrations are gone and the noise reduces instantly to the very minimum.And what are the downsides of this product? Only minor ones: due to its structure its not easy to get clean cuts on the edges. So they may end up a bit uneven/irregular, depending on the tool you will use. Also, on smoother surfaces (desks, tiled floors...) and lighter objects (<10kg) the mat may be a little slippery - but two sided tape deals with that perfectly.All considered, this product is really well made and delivers impressive results. It turned my computer from annoying junk to silent workstation and I have no doubt I will pick this mat for my future kitchen appliances. Unfortunately the floors are not well soundproofed. So when my top of the range washer-dryer gets up to full spin I'm acutely aware of the disturbance it causes. Originally I considered the 0.5 cm thick mat but I'm so glad I went for the 2cm thick. There is plenty of room in my utility room so putting it under my washer dryer caused no problems. The reduction in vibration is dramatic. And it seems like the mat helps the machine stay in place. Not sure if it would fit if your machine is under a cabinet or worktop. But it's very old fashioned to have washing machines in the kitchen these days.
