The first I put in back in 2002, nearly 20 years ago. That old one still pumps but got noisy in the cold (started a few years back), and more recently noisy all the time. This new one, in compaison, is whisper quiet. But then so was the first, in its earlier life. The price has gone way up but that's okay. It lasts a long, long time. Just calculated an inflation-adjusted price and 480 delivered then (2002, sans sales tax) vs 780 delivered this year -- that's actually exactly the same (x1.65). Difference is the new model includes the two unions, is less heavy (volute is different); motor appears the same. OK, very good. Unfortunately my pump vault which is below the water level, started to flood with heavy rains. So I was forced to reconfigure the plumbing above ground and use a self priming pump. Performance pro customer service is second to none which is an added bonus to the stellar performance both in durability, and efficiency of their pumps.
