The c part of the clamp is made of plastic while most of the rest of the device is made of metal. I am using it to hold an 8-1/2" x 11" soft light and it does a great job. Use your imagination for many other uses. My only complaint is that when I received the item it had a terrible odor to it. It smelled as if it had been stored in a flooded basement.
