Just look up a YouTube video to see how it works. **Q: Could you put cut pieces of 2" angle in-between the targets and keep it in place by the targets angel piece wedging those protective angles?** A: If I understand the question,I think u would need to bolt the angle iron to the 2x4 or it would likely pop off. I mounted a small steel silhouette between the 2 paddles which gives me a 3rd target and protects the 2x4. **Q: Will these swing reliably with .22LR rounds?** A: No, not at all, they are heavy duty for larger calibers. They don't even swing that well from my .380. They work well with a 9mm. **Q: how many can be put on a pole safely? I would like to build a tree with 6, would that be too heavy with the recommended base?** A: 6 is fine, but i suggest reinforcing the base. I got their cheap metal H frame style base, and it would never hold up my 4 targets on a single post (I doubt it would even hold 2).
