My hand hurts a lot when I'm working, probably because I'm holding the hook too tight. But this larger handle doesn't hurt to hold while working.The size is carved into the handle so it shouldn't rub off. The hook is rounded at the end to easily slide through tiny holes. The neck of this hook doesn't narrow like my old one, but I haven't had any trouble getting through the holes. The metal hook goes all the way through the handle.However, after crocheting with this book for several months, the metal hook began sliding out of the silicone holder mm by mm. It was easy to push it back in, but a month or so after that, the metal snapped just below the top of the sleeve.
