If your newly cut key can turn on the lights, the cutting part was done correctly. However, without programming, it won't start the engine. You may follow some online instructions to "program" your key, but only to a point where your remote buttons work, and the key won't start your engine. This is because your new key must be programmed and authenticated, and the authentication identifier must be saved in your car.
