The base - on carpet you can hardly even push it when no weight is on it and stepping up and down is solid. If on vinyl, it can be pushed easily into place before standing on it and as long as stepping up and down is done done without any lunge it stays put solidly, if you take a large step backwards it will, of course move slightly. The top - If you’re wearing just a sock, it feels like it's being gripped, but with an outdoor soled slipper, you can slid your foot if you choose to, to get into a comfortable position, but it doesn't feel slippy. I've used mine quite a lot and have never felt insecure on it.
