Review: Solid, step=by-step with illustrations and a story-line intro to Latin - This is a great second text for me, as a self-learning adult. My other resource has been Lingua Latina, which has the accompanying audio which is GREAT. The pros of this are: -explanations in English of the grammar -A slower, more gradual introduction of grammar points -each chapter has a section on historical/ cultural information which I find is EXTREMELY helpful -it is very user friendly Cons: -no audio, that is, they made audio, it's hard to find and extremely expensive Note: I did manage to procure the CDs for Unit 1 and Unit 2. Paid a lot. They were produced with a whole repertoire of actors , so you get many voices, not just one, plus accompanying sound effects. However, they make no effort to differentiate the long vowels from the short, and not infrequently get the stress on the wrong syllable. I since majored in Latin in college and studied the works of Vergil, Ovid, Caesar, Cicero, etc. I later taught Latin to k-8 students. So, I transitioned to Cambridge and the students all immediately fell in love with it. This is the best book series for learning Latin, especially for younger folk. It's not "perfect" but it introduces the language in an approachable and fun way through telling stories. It also has abundant supplementary materials that can be found online as well as tests and quizzes etc..
