**Q: does it have an off/on switch? How long does the battery last?**
A: YES IT HAS AN ON AND OFF BUTTON.  Not sure about the battery as I have only had my devise about a month, and it is still working.

**Q: We're getting readings of 1.5 to 2 times the number of steps counted. Is there any way to adjust the way this thing counts?**
A: My thought is to press the green mode button to have it run through the modes to see if that helps.  Sometimes I bump it accidentally and it doesn't read my steps right until I do that and get it back on the step mode.  Or maybe you should try to recalculate your gate to see if that helps.  That is about all I can offer.

We bought one to try, and just finished setting it up. Everything worked easily, despite the lack of clear wording in the manual. However, we're getting terribly inaccurate results of 1.5-2x the actual number of steps.
