It is approx. 4 ½ inches long. To me the most important part of a chamois buffer is the chamois. This is a real chamois, although I don’t know what species of animal it actually came from. The chamois is wrapped around the buffer with a red hair elastic. If they hadn't glued the chamois to the buffer the chamois would have been replaceable. It is unfortunate that the plastic part of the buffer wasn’t made of a higher quality as it is the weakest part of this buffer. The plastic is adequate and I feel that it will hold up. I am not a girly girl when it comes to nail polish. It chips off my fingers. I am lucky if gels last 2 days on my fingertips. Buffing my nails is a way to give them a high sheen without the chemicals or the poor results I experience from polish. I always use a chamois buffer with a cream. From my experience a cream must be used to achieve the high sheen found in clear fingernail polish. I am currently using SuperNail Buffing Cream purchased on Amazon. I like a cream that is creamy, not gritty, but gets the job done. When I buff I move the buffer in an X motion. It is important to stop buffing if the nails heat up. I buff a few motions, then touch my nail to make sure it is not heating up. If done correctly the high sheen will look like clear nail polish. ### ⭐⭐⭐ a little on the small side *by L***E on Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2012* I ordered this chamois buffer for my nails. I had a previous one for umpteen years! and used it til it wore through. THe quality of this one s poor...cheaply made...you can even see where they glued it together. It is also on the small side. The handle is thin plastic. I would not order this again although it does work...Don't know if I'll have this one for umpteen years though. I would search for a different sized one next time. It will do in a pinch. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fixing/Replacing mis-fitting chamois material *by R***D on Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2011* I just wanted to address the concerns of the person who had an issue with the way the chamois was poorly attached to the body of the buffer. It's a shame the seller didn't respond, and I considered that when I placed my order, but thought it was probably something that could be taken care of once I saw the piece in front of me. I'm not quite sure of the exact mechanics of the issue as described by the buyer, as this is all plastic (aside from the chamois material), and there is no "metal part", but it looks simple enough to deal with in any event.The chamois is actually held in place by a corded elastic band. This allows the chamois to be either adjusted or replaced when needed (visit an auto parts store and buy a window-cleaning chamois, and you'll have a lifetime of replacement chamois material!). Just stick something small and pointed--a straightened paper clip, for instance, or tip of a pen--under the band to pull it out of the groove in which it rests, re-adjust the chamois, and you're done. When the original piece of chamois wears out, use the original as a pattern to cut a new piece roughly to size (and it doesn't have to be a perfect fit when in place, it just needs to be large enough so it fits under the elastic band all the way around. I'd suggest using a wet chamois to fit in place, as it will mold to the shape of the buffer as it dries. Then use some scissors to trim to final size.So, if the chamois is slipping out from under the band as the original poster described, simply pull it away from its groove and re-tuck the chamois, and that should take care of it.
