A: I have a 6-inch mattress and a 2-inch pillowtop.  The pillowtop just hits the bottom of the headboard, so no.

A: I suspect Alder. It looks great paired with a teak dresser I have. Could also be Afromosia? I doubt it is Mahogany. Doesn't the listing specify the wood type?
