These are 100% natural stone?** A: 1. Yes, they are 100% natural stones. 2. Mineral oil is the best lubricant to use on Arkansas sharpening stones. It does a better job of preventing the stones from clogging. (Most common Baby Oil is just Mineral Oil with fragrance added). If you are sharpening in a kitchen and have a sink nearby, then using soapy water is a viable method. A lubricant suspends the steel shavings from your blade and prevents them from clogging the stone. Soapy water will sink into the cavities of the stones more quickly so you will have to add it more frequently. **Q: Do these wood blocks that hold the stones come with a top?** A: Not sure what you mean by a top. I ordered the 10 inch set , they are well made and finished , flat out of the box no defects . I was eager to try them specially the Arkansas black . I chose a Swiss Army knife as the test subject , after a few passes on the hard ark I took it to the black Arkansas to finish the edge . This stone is smooth as glass and is quite a bit heavier than the soft and hard stones I guess its specific gravity is higher . It doesn’t remove a lot of steel but took the edge to a whole new level ! It took about 35 passes each side then I checked the edge and it was like checking the edge of a scalpel ! Slices effortlessly through paper and cardboard .
