The word reset is never mentioned in the manual, but is in small lettering on the back of the unit next to a pin-size hole. After pushing in the spring reset with a sewing needle when the unit was off, it was some improved. After pushing the reset when the unit was on, it worked fine on the easy level I tried. I used a separate chess board for all the pieces and used the electric board to press the start square and finish square of each of my moves and of each of the computer's moves. Review: Love chess but did not like this board….sorry - It is a decent board but I’m returning it….. I needed magnetic pieces because, I was going to use while traveling.. Also played 3 games as soon as I received it, but all three games ended in a mess because king became knight and pawn became bishop…..not sure, why it happened but it took attention from game to find correct positions…..
