## Description

Buffalo’s LinkStation SoHo 220 series is a reliable, budget-friendly two-drive network-attached storage ideal for small and home offices and professional users requiring a steadfast, RAID-based NAS storage solution. The LinkStation is designed as a straightforward NAS server that provides dependable performance and high data security for secure and flexible everyday storage and backup. Pre-configured RAID offers out-of-the-box data protection, and you can easily back up multiple computers (Windows and macOS) to the same secure network storage location. The NAS drive runs on a closed system, which prevents 3rd party applications from being installed and thus bypassing dangerous app vulnerabilities. The LinkStation SoHo 2-bay NAS also offers the security and flexibility of RAID data protection. You can choose to configure a RAID 0 array on the NAS hard drives to maximize the storage capacity or a RAID 1 array that ensures your data remains protected even if one of the NAS drives fails. Creative professionals will appreciate the Direct Copy feature on the home server, which allows you to connect devices with USB ports directly to the LinkStation SoHo and automatically copy your files onto the LinkStation. USB card reader compatibility also supports backup from an SD card or Compact Flash.

Review: Excellent NAS unit - Replaced a similar unit after years of use, easy to use, very reliable.
Review: Not a good investment - The idea is good, but this product has some major downfalls. Copying files directly from your computer is somewhat slow, but not terrible. Twe things that really hurt this drive are the fact that it is very difficult to connect to remotely. If you don't bring a device right to the drive and connect locally, you cannot get it to connect to this drive remotely, and that makes it virtually useless. The other big issue is teh fact that the backup software is very difficult to set up. I'm pretty tech savvy and I never got it to work, even after troubleshooting and trying all suggested solutions to configure it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i backup/upload photos from my iphone? if yes, then does it store the photo in same format(eg.: heic) with exif metadata & same size as in iphone?**
A: Yes, you can backup/upload your iPhone photos with our WebAccess-I app. It does not alter the files in any way.

**Q: "standard drives" does not sound like a nas (iron wolf) rated 24x7 duty drive. if "standard" desktop model drive, can they be upgraded to nas spec?**
A: Yes, the Buffalo LinkStations use what I would call common home computer drives.
Yes, you can replace those drives with any similar size SATA drives.
But, I see no need as I have five Buffalos running 24/7 on my network, the oldest purchased in 2009, the newest in 2018.
I have had no failures - zero.
If you configure the Buffalo to RAID 1 you have no problem even if a drive dies as they are hot-swap and the system does automatic restore on insertion of a new drive.

**Q: I am reviewing the 16tb 720 & will plug it into my wireless router via ethernet. i have both macs & pcs. is this compatable with mac catalina 10.15.7?**
A: Yes, it should work with that OS>

**Q: Will wireless support expire at any future point in time like Western Digital's mycloud did?**
A: The LinkStation SoHo’s Personal Cloud support and WebAccess do not expire. The LinkStation Soho will work on wireless networks after connecting to the router via ethernet cable..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent NAS unit
*by D***N on 17 April 2024*

### ⭐⭐ Not a good investment

### ⭐⭐ No NFS support and CPU is under powered
*by C***H on 22 February 2021*

I had issues with this device because when I had only 2 Linux VMs writing to it using Samba, the LS200's CPU would max out and the Linux VM's kernel's would see insane amounts of CPU wait%, 40-60% sustained. This NAS is fully capable of doing NFS, a far superior protocol compared to SMB, except for the fact that the kernel it ships with isn't configured for NFS communications. This thing has been crippled compared to other devices in the marketplace so that you'll buy the TeraStation line of products if you want NFS. This thing can not handle two parallel SMB/CIFS/Windows Filesharing transfers (2 PC's to one NAS) at once at max throughput due to CPU limitations. Don't buy this if you need performance. It's ok for HomeOffice nightly backups. I give 2 stars for user interface as I found no native way to monitor system cpu/mem usage.
